the light at DIA:Beacon

For several years now, I've been shooting regularly for the DIA:Beacon museum.  The light there is always inspiring and the way that the light and artwork work together, whether it is Louise Bourgeois or student work from DIA's program with the Beacon public schools, always amazes me.

Students from the Beacon City School District recently performed in the Richard Serra torqued ellipses gallery.  Students composed and improvised their own music with instruments and voice while the community was invited to draw their responses to the music.

Then a few of the students 'read' drawings that community members made in response to artwork.

new books!

New books have arrived!  Thank you, thank you to Melissa McGill, William Van Roden and Hemlock Press for their invaluable help putting these books together.  It's always nice putting new books together because I don't often enough look back to see the great people that I have had the privilege of photographing and working with.  Thanks to David Rees, Lindsey Taylor, Daniel Handler, Zona, Jessica Wickham, Malfatti Glass, Tsia Carson, Generation, Edible Hudson Valley, Homecooking NY, Asia Baker, Country Living, Obercreek Farm, Elizabeth Strianese, Ella's Bellas, Elixir Design, Garden Design, NFP Studios and Chronicle Books - all folks that I worked with to make the pictures in these books.

vassar

I was asked up to Vassar this week, to speak to budding photographers about my work and give them  a critique of  theirs.  It was great talking with students, trying to give them some sense of my process and seeing some of the really great work that they are producing.  Afterword, I wandered around the campus - here is a pic from the evening.

Great shoot with Liz Strianese last week at the Roundhouse.  This was such an all-star Beacon cast!  Here are some of the folks represented below:  Atlas Industries, Jessica Wickham, Modcraft, Niche Modern,  Rexhill Furniture and Ten Willow Studios (of the Malfatti Glass).  Nice work!
